Agreed 100%.

Rather than just keeping existing developers the other side of the coin is how to attract new developers. Even under the best of circumstances there will always be attrition and to be vibrant CodeGear absolutly needs new customers and the more the better. How to balance limited resources between customer retention and acquisition is the difficult problem that in the end will decide the ultimate fate of CodeGear.

I think this article by Eric Sink to can help decision makers who are involved in resource allocation. Be sure to read to the end where he says, "...if I made product strategy decisions based on what I see in communities on the Web, I would be extrapolating from far too little data. And my decisions would be wrong."
