Re: A cross-platform vision for Delphi

I would rather buy a license for the third party component than pay a

I'd rather pay 100$ and not 700$ for some 3rd party stuff. I'd pay
royalties if I'd sell an application made with that.

IMO, most third parties sell their components this way
because most developers agree with me. :)

Not because they agree with you. Because it's better for them. If I'd
sell components, I would also sell them for 700$ no royalties, because
I want the money now, not tomorrow. I don't care what you do with my
stuff. That doesn't stop me from saying what I think it's fair.

What does this have to do with technological adoption in terms of
CodeGear?

You brought it up, I think. I buy things when they get cheap enough,
you however say most people buy them for fuss and fashion. I noticed
this being true mostly in N.Am :-).

new machines purchased have 64bit capability already.

And developers skils are also there already, IMO. Yeah, we don't have a
64bit compiler from Codegear, yet. No big deal if you ask me. We will
have it. There are tons of business outhere with tons of "32bit legacy"
apps, which will continue to run, and where we will work and get our
hands on a 64 bit compiler from Codegear. Give me a break with all the
"today's" rush. I see no rush. I just see lots of guys worried, which
instead of doing their jobs are just jumping around screaming "64bit
compiler".

First, it is very rare that the customer has no choice.

I'll put it this way. There is choice. Customer switches. Same thing
happens. They'll be disappointed sooner or later and switch again. The
fact you have these choices, equals with having no choice.

most cases they simply want something that works, they don't
necessarily care how it's done.

No argue with me about that.

Linux is happening; 64 bit computing
will begin to happen more frequently.

I know. I'm just saying Linux is *happening* for some quite time. And
I'm saying 64bit doesn't happen so fast.

Sure, but not all of them end-up killed with Task Manager on an
hourly basis.

I'm not sure why you put up with software like this?

It gets the job done faster than anything else? And is it bad I want to
keep these tools, and *now*, rather get them fixed instead of upgraded
for Linux or 64bit? I don't mind if that comes later, I'm saying.

Specifically for CodeGear and developer tools, there is no end of
capable competition.

I love Pascal language and never do anything else. Show me this fierce
competition in the market for people like me, cuz I don't see it.

You seem to have a particular application that you use that crashes
all the time, are being forced to use and has no competition. What
is it? :)

I'm not telling
