Re: Upgrade from Turbo?

Hi Steve,

From what I understand the Turbos are aimed at home developers
and hobbyists, and the BDS/D2007 line at professional software
developers. That fact that there isn't an upgrade path makes
perfect sense, since it's unlikely that a hobbyist is going to go
pro. Since the prices are comparable, even if not exactly the
same, between the BDS Pro and Turbo Pro, you are free to
pick either one depending on your needs.

So I've just been listening to Nick on the Delphi hour and he said that
the Turbos do not have an upgrade path to D2007. It doesn't affect me
since I own BDS 2006 but wasn't the whole point of the Turbos to increase
the user base and bring old users back into the CodeGear fold. If this is
the case it's quite possible that a new user, maybe a VB user, who forked
out for Turbo Pro, has enjoyed the experience and now wants to start
developing their commercial applications using Delphi. It seems to be
'poor form' to have absolutely no upgrade path for such a person. I can
see that they shouldn't get a huge discount but no discount is a bit low.
What do others think?

Steve
