Larry,
it's unlikely that a hobbyist is going to go
pro.
Perhaps not "go pro" as in quit my current job to write software exclusively
but go "pro" as in want the best tools I can get [and have the cash to do it]
so I'll buy Delphi Pro ... not so far fetched as you may think. I don't
recall anything in the license agreement saying I _had_ to have a job as a
developer in order to use the product, as a matter of fact I've insisted on
the "Pro" version of every IDE I've used since VB3 [VB-DOS didn't have a pro
SKU].
The Hobbyists/Occupational Developer that's sitting on a Turbo-Pro product
and wants to go to D2007W32-Pro [maybe even get SA to play with the other
personalities as they roll out] _should_ have a path to do so. Making them go
full price ... not likely to happen. It's possible [perhaps, maybe, it's been
rumored, it may come to pass, ...] that Turbo-Pro will have fewer features
than D200XW32 in the future.
Are there going to be hordes taking advantage of the deal? Not likely, but as
it sits now I'd say most definitely ... but given the "path" there may be
some and if there aren't many then it's no big loss to CodeGear at that point
either.
Feh ... we'll have to see.
