With VMWare, if you copy a VM to a new machine, the VMWare system
will recognize this and ask if you intended to move or copy the VM.
You have the option of saying it was moved, in which case no
re-activation is needed. If you say it's a copy, then VMWare assigns
a new machine ID which will force Windows and possibly other software
to require reactivation. Just tell the system that the VM was moved
and to retain the machine ID, and you'll be fine.

Surely the logical next step in the 'all our customers are criminals'
campaign will be to somehow detect the presence of a VM (just
speculation: I don't know if this is possible), and refuse to operate.
Is it just a matter of time?
