Much better would be to concentrate on building up the "Codegear" brand.
Imagine that. That's what you do if you're planning to be around for the
long haul.

To expand on that: "Codegear" is the name of a company. It makes sense to
build it up as a recognizable brand to indicate a vendor of development
tools that can be expected to have friendly IDE's with easily usable
component libraries.
But "Codegear" has little brand recognition now. So here's what I imagine
went on within Codegear: "Hmm, well, the only trademark we have that's
worth a sh*t is 'Delphi', the one we've always used for our IDE product with
the ObjectPascal language. I know this new PHP product has nothing at all
to do with the product currently branded as 'Delphi', but if we slap the
name 'Delphi' on it we can get lots of people to look at it. Great, let's
do that!"
It's probably true that slapping the name 'Delphi' on the PHP product is
going to get more people to look at it quicker than if it didn't have
'Delphii' in the name. The problem is that in the long run it will be
counterproductive. Given the confusion in Codegear's marketing it may even
be counterproductive in the short term.
