Hi,
- are we going to criticise every single move Codegear makes ?
Yes! I have money invested in their products, and like it not, their decisions
affects my business.
- are we not collectively more interested in CodeGear producing good
and reliable tools (which clearly they are in the process of doing)
more than criticising every thing under the sun ?
I'm selfish... *I* want to produce good and reliable tools. And of course make some
money in the process. I worked with languages from MS and Borland, and I choose to go
with Borland/CG because they allow *me* to do a better job.
- who are we to demand that CodeGear justifies every decision ?
Duh! We are not that important. If we don't buy their product... they will run out of
business. How important is that?
Have
you ever called BillG to ask why Vista is called Vista and not
StupiDows 2007 ? or WinBug 2030 ? and if you did as he answered ?
Are you kidding?! Have you ever read some messages in MS newsgroups or forums?!
<sarcasm>
I am amazed at the number of Marketing/Market/Compiler/Systems/Tools
experts we have in this Newsgroup, I feel priviledged to be allowed to
be a witness of such a downpour of wisdom.
</sarcasm>
As I told you, we are concerned about the success of CG in the market. Our business
is closely related to them.
As I said a number of times here, let's judge CodeGear by the results:
- if D2007 is not what we expect then burn them
- if Spacely is not what it should be, burn them
- if D4PHP does not stand on it's own 2 feet (for a first release)
burn them
Don't need to burn anyone. I have the impression that CG is a _LOT_ closer to the
community, than Borland was. They can hear us. We already saw some good improvements
(Bug reporting is working, Hotfixes are released, Fastcode merge, better IDE, New
IDE) ;-)
They don't need to defend, as no one is attacking them. We have opinions and we write
them. They read and answers as they see fit.
Clément
