Re: What after Delphi 2007?

Hi Johnnie,

Note that the Turbo line may never match the D2007 release,
since D2007 is part of the BDS line, not part of the Tubo line.
While the Turbo line started out identical to the Delphi Win 32
personality of BDS 2006, because they had to start the Turbo
line somewhere, it may not remain identical to it. So, it all
depends on your needs. Note that is you develop a
comerical app, that suddenly needs db support beyond what
the Pro sku has, and you are in the Turbo line, you are stuck,
while if you are in the BDS line, you can simply upgrade from
Pro to whatever sku has the features you need.

Note that D2007 for Win 32 is the pre-release of the Delphi
for Win 32 personality of BDS 2007. I imagine that when
BDS 2007 is released that the Delphi for Win32 personality
will have further updates to it. I do not know when the Turbo
line will next be updated, or what will be in it.

Hi Johnnie,

D2007 for Win32 is a pre-release of part of BDS 2007. Although
Turbo Delphi 2006 started out as the pro version of the Delphi
personality of BDS 2006, that was just a starting point. In the
future the two lines will start diverging, with the Turbo line aimed
at non-professional developers, and the BDS line aimed at software
pros. This has been discussed here, by Nick Hodges.

So there is not going to be an upgrade from D2007/4W32 to D2008/4W32. I'll
have to purchase an upgrade to BDS 2008, which includes languages and
"enterprise" features I don't want and don't need? Sounds like I should be
considering using the Turbo Pro line then, and I should wait until it
matches the D2007 release. Now I understand all the confusion here. I
don't want to end up on two different product lines that for some reason
are not related.

What is D2007/4W32 then? Just a bandage on BDS2006 Delphi W32 until
BDS2007 is released?

Is something mapping current product versions and what you should upgrade
to available? How about, looking ahead to 2008, what are the SKUs for
Delphi?
