Re: Are all products now sold "As-is / Where-is"?

Nick,

That's right -- people with a current SA contact get all upgrades to
Delphi, C++Builder, and the Studio while their contract is current.

Thanks. That is as I thought. Then I am perplexed at what [I
interpret] the thread discussion to be about. <puzzled look>

I'm not arguing with Nick. I firmly believe in S/A. I'm an S/A subscriber myself, and have been since it was first offered. In no way do I feel taken advantage of, despite having never used Delphi 8 for production work, etc. Delphi 8 was my first S/A fulfillment.

What I *am* saying is that what Nick's posting on the newsgroups is not specifically elucidated on the Software Assurance documentation available on the Support website and the mail sent to you when you sign up. The discussion is about the clarity of the message available from CodeGear's web pages.

It's one thing when you have faith and trust in CodeGear. It's another thing when you're already nervous about ponying up the dough, and the public statements don't match the fine print.

Here's what the "official" web page says for Software Assurance.

The base level annual agreement for Support and Maintenance. Service features are:

* 3 incidents annually per covered Borland Product License
* Access to all product updates and upgrades released during the term of the agreement
* Product updates and upgrades delivered by electronic transfer or on CD-ROM
* Phone access to the Borland Support Center during regional business hours
* Access to the Borland online knowledgebase
* Online support incident submittal and tracking; full access to Borland Support Online
* The support element of the service is provided until the predefined number of incidents has been used or 12 months have elapsed, whichever comes first. The maintenance element of the service is always provided for the full 12 months

Now, where does it say that you get *NEW* *RELEASES* ? You can take it on faith that "product updates and upgrades" means the same thing as "new releases", but it's not really clear, is it?

It's also not reassuring that it says Borland all over this page. ;-)
