Have you guys checked out the "D" language yet?
D seems to be a diamond with somewhat rough edges.
Here are some of it's highlights:
- speed (as fast as C/Object Pascal)
- runs on Windows and Linux
- fast compile times, comparable with OP
- garbage collection without any need for big runtimes
- very easy to understand generics
There is even a form designer, which very closely resembles Delphi (but not
as polished, of course).

The only thing it seems to be missing is a decent IDE.
I feel like this would be a huge opportunity for a company where programmers
matter...
In what ways is D superior than Pascal? I.e. it is designed to
fix C and C++, so it very well positioned against those
languages. But for Pascal, which has already a proper system
for modular programming, has already strings, etc., it is a
lot less well positioned.
Make no mistake, D seems like a very well designed language to
me. But for a Pascal shop, D seems to have little added value
to Pascal programmers, nor potential to attract many new
users.
