Remember that .NET does not *directly* bring any benefit to the end user.
That is why most end users haven't heard of it, never mind know what
version they've got.
Bingo.
There's simply no advantage to the users, other than having a reason to
pester your tech support because they have no idea why the software they
just bought wont run because its missing a "dot net thingy from the
interweb".
