Re: registration procedure sucks

Why does any of this make people hostile to even having SA available?
Especially if they don't have to buy it?

I'm fairly hostile to being told what a good deal SA is WITHOUT the "as
long as you are not a Pro-level user" proviso.

Pro-level SA can actually make sense in some circumstances. Buying
D2007 with SA now should get you a copy of the next BCB release as a
stand-alone tool, followed by the next Studio release. Effectively 3
releases for the price of 2 purchases, assuming that the releases go to
plan (unless the plan has changed - they are not allowed to tell us).
Gives you a chance to join the SA programme and actually benefit from
it.

If you're not interested in BCB, then you:
- pay for D2007
- pay for SA
- ignore the next BCB product
- receive the next Studio product
.....
- pay SA renewal
.....
- receive what?

Are CodeGear planning to continue releasing separate single-language
and Studio products in a leapfrogging manner, where both offer
improvements worth having? This could make SA worthwhile for
Delphi-only Pro customers, (though version skipping may still be
attractive financially, and also for people who rather like having a
stable platform).

They might know (and be extremely keen to tell us) but I guess SOX
prevents them sharing the info.

You are correct that the determination of value is entirely in the
user's hands, and that there is no right answer. However, it gets just
a bit wearing to hear what a great deal SA is.

As I've said elsewhere: drop the support incidents from Pro level SA,
and reduce the cost.

I found that once I had fallen off the automatic upgrade cycle (and
saved a considerable amount of money, time + effort), I had a
reluctance to jump back on board. With a sensible Pro SA policy, I
might actually have purchased something from CodeGear over the last few
years...
