Re: registration procedure sucks

OK. Now, here's mine.

I'm not interested in the Turbos except places where the free SKUs make
sense, so I'll leave it to someone else to dig up references about how
it was promoted from the beginning.

Note: Turbo __PROFESSIONAL__ Specifically NOT the Explorer edition.

1) The Professional SKU doesn't automatically translate to "the little
guy". There aren't many companies smaller than mine, and I have been
using the highest end SKU since Delphi 2.

Turbo Pro was aimed at "individual professionals". 1 person. Singular.
That's a "little guy" to me. You can't get much littler and still be a
user. (Can 1/2 of one person use Delphi? I don't think so)

Of course some "little guys" use the top end SKU's, just as some
departmental dev groups use the low end SKU's.

But MOST little guys use the lower end SKU and MOST departmental groups
use the higher end SKU's

3) SA for the Professional SKU isn't as good a deal as with
Enterprise/Architect. Not because the SA is more expensive, but
because the upgrade price is so much cheaper than it is for
Enterprise/Architect.

Does it matter _why_ it isn't such a good deal?
Bottom line, the SA _is_ more expensive, relatively.

Here are some numbers using the non-discounted prices (BDS 2006) from
shop.borland.com:

I don't know where you get the idea that current pricing is discounted.
Prices are advertised as "Special Upgrade Pricing" - nothing about
discount, nothing about limited time. There was a mention of pricing
having been cut.

Ironically, that's what makes SA proportionately less attractive at the
Pro SKU level:

Using the actual prices of D2007 (NZ $s), instead of historic prices of
a superceded product (!!):

Professional New User : $1285
Upgrade : $ 550
SA : $ 529

SA = 41% of new user price
= 96% of upgrade

Enterprise New User : $2903
Upgrade : $1873
SA : $1103

SA = 38% of new user price
= 60% of upgrade

60% vs 96% !!!????

'nuff said I think.
