Don't be belligerent. We're just having a friendly discussion here.
_Where_ have you seen any indication that D2007 prices will rise once
the current "discount" or "special" period has ended?
It's called "special upgrade pricing", which leads me to think that it
isn't the normally offered price, which suggests (to me) that it's
temporary, presumably returning to its original price.
I first saw this in an e-mail from CodeGear on Feb 20, and it's still
showing on their site.
What is the period, and what is the amount of discount currently
being applied?
I don't know the time frame. I'm using the BDS 2006 pricing since SA
is calculated against the full price, and the SA prices are consistent
between BDS 2006 and Delphi 2007.
The special pricing is about 80% for new purchases and 87% for
upgrades. SA is identical.
Excuse me? You offered D206 prices to show that SA was in fact the
same in % age terms for Pro and SKU users.
Yup, that's right.
When faced with the actual information under question - D2007 pricing
- you change the argument to "But SA has never been discounted",
despite the fact that as far as I can see we have not yet established
that there is in fact ANY discount in play at all.
The Delphi 2007 prices are discounted, but SA isn't. You may have
noticed that the same thing happened with the CodeRage discount, and
this is the case when you buy at a discount at the conferences.
I put it to you that D2007 upgrade pricing IS special, but is NOT
discounted, and that the value of SA to Pro SKU users is therefore
highly questionable to say the least.
So you're thinking that it's special but permanent? This isn't how I
think of "special pricing".
Your only counterpoint to that would seem to hinge on what appears to
me to be a misconception that the D2007 upgrade price will rise by
some unspecified amount at some unspecified time.
I presume that the price will go back up to BDS 2006 levels.
If it doesn't, and these lower prices are permanent, then I'd expect SA
to drop so that it's 30% of the new unit price.
What do you think will happen?
In any event, even if you don't think the special pricing will change,
upgrade pricing is still a much better deal for the Professional SKU
than for Enterprise. 44% of the cost of a new license vs 65% for
Enterprise.
A pretty good deal for the little guys.
