Re: D2007 - No Way. No How.

Do you protect your source code against losses due to hard-disk failure?
If so, you should also protect D2007 against the same.

Yes - but the key difference is that I *know* exactly what files I need to
backup to protect my source code.

Are you sure that you are backing up all of the D2007 activation-related
information? How can you be sure as the details are not published? Are you
confident that it will restore OK on a *new* system if the old one is
non-operational?

2) What if you need to replace your network card? I don't believe
that it will stop D2007 working but are you comfortable taking the
risk?

See 1, good hardware maintentance policy in place, no problems.

Yes - but only if you *believe* that the D2007 activation mechanism is not
tied to the MAC Address or other unique characteristic of your old network
card.

My latest experiments have given me confidence that I would likely to be
able to continue using BDS 2006 for at least 5 years of non-access to
CodeGear's servers, with the expected replacement of hardware in that
period. So I have now satisfied myself that I have no need to worry.

However, as the details of the activation system (e.g. which files are
involved, what aspects of your system they are dependent on etc.) have not
yet been published by CodeGear I would advise anybody else who might have a
concern to develop a contingency plan and actually go through a disaster
recovery exercise for themselves.
