Re: The Delphi Hour

Nick,

22:37 CET now, seems that the chat server is down for me, the
audio/video stream is still running though..

Yes, our vendor shut the server down because he refuses to fill out a
very simple W-8 form so we can pay him. We're happy to pay him, but he
won't fill out the form.

Your "vendor" is me, who had been asked to create you a new event
chat room to be used for the CodeRage conference, who replied to you
that he's uber-busy with the CeBIT fair, but still spent several days
and nights to do it, and paid his employees to do the chat design,
who then stayed up late at night at a hotel room to help you guys
getting through CodeRage.

The vendor is who has given you two unlimited server licenses worth
$15.000 each for free, created a whole new community chat for free,
and asked that you only pay a few bucks for the work of the external
designer.

Other than promised, those few bucks (an extremely small sum) wasn't
paid before CodeRage conference. It wasn't paid after the CodeGear
conference. After the "vendor" asked two times about it, a hell confusing
US TAX form has been sent to him. After explaining that this tax form
appears to be about non-US people working for US companies and referred
to all kinds of tax laws, the "vendor" explained that it's a simple
sale under EU law, and that there is no tax on their invoice, and that
filling out that form would require the vendor to hire a US income
tax lawyer for *selling a downloadable product which is completely
tax-free between the EU and the USA anyway*, and asked you to instead
simply pay the freaking bucks, as that was meant just as a "thank you
for your work, vendor", with a tax lawyer costing more than the sum.

After that: Silence.

For over 3 months, nobody has sent me an mail, nobody paid, nobody
tried to.

Until today, when I found out you've got the nerves to announce a chat
event using that still unpaid chat room I did for you.

Which made me ask John if he doesn't find this questionable from a morality
standpoint. The answer hasn't been what I expected. So I decided
"Ok guys, keep your money, I've learned my lesson once again about
trusting Borland/Inprise/Codegear". And informed John that the license
is suspended until someone finally has paid me.

No, I don't think you are in the position to complain. You got something
for free which other US customers usually pay a lot of money for. I've
worked my ass off for you guys once again.

And as so many times before, you've managed to be as unthankful as
possible. Congratulations.

Greeting,

The "vendor" that used to be one of your biggest supporters
