Why exactly do we need resellers and local distributors at all?

Why don't CodeGear trim and simplify the organisation, use a single point of global ESD exclusively, send out all media kits from the US globally, do a lot of global road trips - but cut all the local offices and distributors.

Distributors is what you need when selling cars & chewing gum, not for downloadable digital software.
