Actually, I didn't. AFAIK, it's the resellers that set the prices
in their individual countries of operation. I'm sure there are
different amounts of operational overhead in various locales and
that's possibly why the prices are different.
I doubt it's anything that we or Microsoft are doing.
The prices are determined by the CG. The prices that I posted are from
official CG sites. I'm not sure what kind of operational overheads can
explain this. Shouldn't same operational overheads also be applicable to the
US resellers and the Canada?
Try to purchase online from France, UK or US. You are redirected to the same
digitalriver server and the only *operational overhead* here is the website
redirection! i.e. you have to pay more simply because your IP resides in an
EU country! MS products can be purchased from many different channels with
different prices. MS also offers special discounts for Middle East and
Africa. OTOH, CG forces the developers to purchase from local resellers who
are likely to monopolize the market. Moreover, CG doesn't provide any kind
of discount for countries with lower income rate. IMO, If CG's target is to
reach more and more developers around the world then the current pricing
policy should be revised.
