I see the same thing happening to Delphi. The tool seems way overpriced
for what it delivers.
I agree. Delphi is an excellent tool, but the prices are high for current
market status. MS is offering VS 2005 standard for only $299 and the VS Pro
is $799. With these prices it is very difficult to convince developers to
switch to the Delphi. .NET being the *trendy* tool already has the dominance
on the market and the only way for CG to penetrate into this market is
offering better quality with competitive prices. Delphi Ent for $1999 is far
from it.
I think the only way to survive for Codegear is to go for the mass market.
Which means they need to lower their prices significantly.
Very well said. Cut the prices and reach as much as developers as you can.
Paying several thousands of dollars for your developing tool is a thing of
past.
