Re: International Pricing Policy

But the question is not only the price, most of all how good is a
product? how easy is it for me to use? How do i come along with it.

That's true. But VS is pretty good too and it comes down to a matter of
personal preference.

What does it bring me to get a free or cheaper version of something
else if it doesn't give me the features i want and if i am less
productive with it.

Agreed. The question is how much more productive are you using Delphi over
C#?
For me, it is not a question of productivity anymore. It's more of a
question if I want that runtime installed or not.
I personally prefer native programs, but our customers don't seem to care.

The Express versions of Studio are maybe free, but will it stay free?

It is in Microsoft's best interest to keep them free and offer even more.
They are doing the best that they can to keep those developers away from
Linux. And they are smart. They are really pushing hard now to keep
developers on their platform by providing all those fantastic tools for
free. It is MS vs. the world (IBM, Sun, Google, Oracle), and their developer
friendly strategy keeps them on top.

the database development in .NET is far away from perfect. It will need
more years to reach a level that for exampke

I have never worked with Foxpro. But I don't see much difference between
Delphi and C#. In fact, the free VS gives me the possibility to write
disconnected 3 tier applications. Can't do that with Delphi 6 professional.
Writing webservices with ASP.NET couldn't be easier.

Foxpro users are used too. Also i am personally allergic against VB :)

But i would agree that the pricing policy of Borland after Delphi 1 is
one reason why they were getting in troubled water. It is never good to
want too much.

B.G. said in an interview that keeping their prices reasonable and thus
reaching the masses has always been one of Microsoft's biggest
success-factors.
