I have a Toshiba Satelite with a 17.5 wide glossy and I love it. Themirror
stuff is not a factor. Fingerprints are but that is fixable :-)
SPend the extra bucks for a 10K rmp drive if you can afford it.
I have laptops with both the glossy and the matte finish.
I don't like using the glossy for development work, the mirroring effect is
a definite annoyance for me.
The glossy display does have darker blacks and greater contrast, so I
suppose it's better for watching videos so long as you don't have definite
light sources behind you in the room.
The mirroring in the glossy display is similar to what you get when it turns
dark outside and you looking through a window: you can see reflection of
the interior and/or the stuff outside on the other side of the window. To
some extent, I suppose, you naturally grow to look _through_ the window but
sometimes your attention is grabbed by something in a reflection on the
window.
To anyone who is hesitant about whether they want a glossy screen I'd
suggest going to Best Buy, CompUSA, or somewhere similar and comparing the
displays.
