i dont see unicode
Strange. Our Delphi (6)-App support Unicode even unter Win9x/ME since 2002. And we use DB's (MS SQL-Server, Oracle, MySQL) also with unicode.
So you meen you don't see 100% unicode in the provided VCL-Classes.
It's right that it would be easier if the VCL would be 100%Unicode-Enabled, but i think this will definitly mean no support for Win9x/Me (like it will be in Highlander).
and dbexpress driver for firebird then

If firebird+dbExpress would be so high-prior, you had bought one e.g. from CoreLab(http://crlab.com/dbx/).
And if you say that this will cost you money. Hey, a porting to .NET will cost you much much more money + time.
