In article <46e21a7c$1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, qcorrell@xxxxxxxxxxxxx says...
Jolyon,
| So an upgrade that contained a necessary but breaking change that
| meant that you could not make use of it would have been a useful
| upgrade?
I never said the upgrade would be useful.
You said you got value from it - I must presume that you found it useful. I
only suggested you were a collector of distribution media as a joke, or was I
right after all?
;)
That has nothing at all to do with this discussion.
Um, yes, it does.
| | Subscribing to SA's is NOT based on what specific
| | features future updates may or may not offer.
|
| Sorry, but this is nonesense.
No, your statement is nonsense. There is NO way to tell in advance
what any update will contain! An SA is a form of insurance, if nothing
else.
SA is a subscription, but if you want to liken it with something else then you
should use "a bet", not insurance.
You pay your stake, and wait for 12 months to see if you come out ahead.
After 12 months you may be a winner or you may not, and you get to place
another stake for another 12 months to either win again or recoupr your
losses, depending on how you fared with your first gamble.
An insurance policy on the other hand has defined, and guaranteed, benefits.
Sure SA guarantees that IF a release is made in the period covered, then you
will get that release. But there is no guarantee (although there is perhaps a
likelihood) that there will BE a release in that period, but more importantly
there is no GUARANTEE that any release will be useful or even usABLE.
| Really? You can predict the future, AND you think almost anyone can?
It had NOTHING AT ALL to do with "the future." It was simply a matter
of making an informed decision based on the information on hand.
You were deciding whether you were likely to get value for money from SA over
the course of the NEXT 12 months. Of course it had something to do with the
future, unless you;re living your life in reverse or something..?
| You have no way of knowing what use - if at all - those
| updates will be to you though.
I never said I did! See "insurance" above.
So if they had not been of any use to you your insurance policy (SA) would
have paid out to compensate you.
No, wait... that's not how it works is it? Actually you know, I don't think
it's anything like insurance at all, is it?
;)
