Install cache gone?

Hi all,

Well this is odd... I just tried installing Update 3 for D2007 Pro - and it seems to be a bizarre process.

Rather than using the auto updater, I downloaded the install file from the registered users area. I ran it, and it presented me with the option to change my license key, modify or uninstall. This seemed odd - maybe it's just the wording, but someone should definately look at that, I want to upgrade not modify. I cancelled and went for the auto updater instead.

The auto updater insisted that it couldn't find my local install file cache, which is odd because it was definately there before I ran the update program. When Update 1 came out, I downloaded the ISO, and reinstalled from scratch, rather than using the updater. I had Update 2 installed as well, and as we all know that required the cache files to be on the system.

So either the standalone updater (or whatever the program that offered to 'modify' was) zapped the install cache or Vista just decided to delete them by itself. I'm more inclined to think option 1 personally :)

Now, the auto updater says that because it cannot find the files, it will download files as required blah blah - but does this mean it will download some and then crap out because the original file cache is not there? Or will it just download everything and everyone will be happy?

Highly confused....
