participate in other field tests, but you dont allow me to in in the
highlander one. ;)
Ok, send me an email directly the with the email you use for developer
network. We'll get an invite sent out.
Generally if one person runs into a problem, a bunch of others do
too - I like to understand the causes of the problems, and if it's
something on our side we can fix, then go after it.
I bet is something related to dont showing the initial form asking
for language, like the help system ask again to choice alnaguage
(bad IMHO, because the main setup already ask for it ). Do you
remember if in your setup in the point of the help system the setup
shor youa form asking to select a language? in my system run like in
silence mode, but then the help process stand there and nothing more
happens...
The installer team had a hard time getting a progress bar to show up in
the 'parent' installer with the help being in 'silent' mode. We did put
text in indicating it will take a long time, but I agree it appears to
'freeze' for a while - 20 to 30 minutes seems the norm to install.
We can improve this in a few ways - make the help install a seperate
checkbox in the main install, and visually make it it's own installer.
(More abstraction, less integration into the main install). It's clunky
in my view that the main installer installs ECO and Help silently, but
when you uninstall those are not uninstalled automatically and treated
seperately. Behavior should be consistent.
We do test on quite a few Vista systems, including 64 bit, and
localized (German, French and Japanese, Business, Ultimate and
Home). My own personal laptop is a Vista Business system, and I
keep it 'dirty' to try and run into any issues that the real world
will. I also run VMWare on it, which is a bit slower then I'd like
under Vista (even with 2gb of memory on the system).
I have one with Vista Home, but i cannot believe is the cause.
Running on 2 Gb also. BTW, still cannot use MSBUILD here, see
another one in the ide group having the same problem, seems related
to some HP software bundled with my notebook.
Ok, thanks - will check it out.
