Love it or loath it, we're stuck with Vista.
Or are we ?
My wife is a psychologist, and as clueless a user as you'll ever find.
I've slowly migrated her to Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice, but only when she's had a whinge about the latest insanity from the M$ equivalent. And she's been quite happy with the results.
As long as your wife has you around, she can run any OS. But without your expert help she must run a Mac or Windows machine, because sooner or later she will end up at a command line or editing a config file - and that will be the end of it.
