Re: 64 Bit operating system trends

I believe the server market now sees more 64-bit installs than 32-bit: the extra
memory space solves so many problems.

On the other hand, the average office user does not need a 64-bit pc, and
neither does Joe Public at home to do his web surfing and hold his photo
collections. Can't see them needing it for a looooonnnggg time either.

However, his son Johnny Public likes games. Games are now busting the 2G per
process limit in 32 bit (and are having real problems under Vista due to dumb
design decisions).

So just like video hardware (and to a lesser extent CPUs), _gamers_ will drive
the migration to 64-bit OSes and software.

Which is funny because Delphi isn't used that much for game programming or server
programming.. it's more of a cool OOP tool that people pick to make cute GUI sticky bun
apps. Therefore there really isn't a need for 64-bit Delphi at this point.. like everyone
thinks.

I think 64bit is interesting though, make no mistake. And there are definitely some games
and some intensive applications developed with Delphi. 'Go' game and AI engines come to
mind.
