Re: Rapid Application Decline?

Who said there's not more money there? I am fully aware of that.

Paul's original statement was: "most application development today is
performed through Web browser interfaces."

In the context of when it was made, I took this to mean "most [active
and lucrative] application development [for kinds of markets CodeGear
sells into and professional developers make a living working within]
today..." :)

My original " Most of the biggest names in advertisment have web front ends
is more precise IMO :)" was sort of my way of saying this.

Ok, got it.

How many people are making money from those product? Are those just
hobbyists or utilities that developers crank out in their spare time and
upload to share?

I would safely say more than the companies selling web applications (key
here being the "how many", not "how much they are making").

My reality is that I'm a professional developer. I need to eat and pay
my mortgage. Therefore, I have to balance and align my personal
technical interests with businesses that will employ me. That equation
will *always* have some level of an economic influence.

Therefore "how much they are making" is going to be a stronger factor
than merely "how many" despite some inevitable correlation between the
two. Clearly "how cool is it" is also a big factor, I am a Delphi
developer after all. :)

I suspect that the number of people making a living from software
uploaded there is not as high as those working on corporate IT.

Without a doubt, but if for one Salesforce.com there's 50 shareware apps or
5 component vendors (<G>), it still makes my point that more companies (for
whatever small they are) are not developing web stuff but other stuff.

Sure, I'll concede that technical point/distinction. Everyone with a
computer and a editor/compiler can upload crap to download.com; that
doesn't mean that there's any real value created. Sure, some things are
great and create value for micro ISVs (nothing wrong with that, I hope
to have some crap on download.com as well :] ).

IMO, the plethora of stuff on download.com doesn't apply to the context
of the original statement.

Salesforce.com creates real value which is why people can make a living
working for them, partnering with them, integrating their products,
investing in their company. Look at Amazon's Web services, very cool
stuff...that's where the future is headed.

I don't see it slowing down at all. As "web 2.0" continues to evolve, I
see an even greater desire for companies to move things online.

Maybe. We'll see how this wave of hype goes :)

It's been going for quite some time...

BEAUFITUL!!
I'll definitely look into this.

extjs is awesome. It's a bit big for public websites, so it's not a
slam dunk IMO for that, but it's totally the way to go for
intranets/extranets.

[..]
Google Docs is the future. :)

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!*
Wanna bet one dollar and a beer? <G>

Sure, why not. :) Would you like to suggest a time frame and a
measurable metric?
