Hope this helps. I do have a background in agriculture: agricultural water
management to be precise.

I worked for a Texas A&M research center as their "do everything" IT guy.
Their concentration was in rice production, a big thing here in Texas. One
of the programs I had to write involved calculating the flow of water from
entry points in a field, through the weirs (water portals) to each part of
the field. It told the farmers how long they had to run the irrigation to
have water flow to all parts of the field. This was all done in Turbo Pascal
and was probably one of the most fun projects I've ever done.
