Actually the funny thing is that we got bad results following that road or even more expensive ones (recruters)...

If you want to reach the maximum number of developers looking for a job, I'd go with
Monster or DICE. I get email notifications from Monster and Dice almost daily on job/contract opportunities nationally or restricted to a specific geographical area.
This is money well spent IMO.

I can surely believe you get more responses going that route, but since it has not been a guarantee of quality, I wanted to check other approaches.
