Whatever the problem, I have to agree with others that it's probably
not the reporting tool. I use ReportBuilder against Interbase and it is
very fast. But any report tool is not used by itself - you have other
parts there too.
I'm not even sure you're using MS Sql Server as you have only a passing
comment about paying for components. If you've moved from Access to Sql
Server there are many changes you may have to make. Do you also display
data to the screen and have the same delay problems? Is the technical
design the same?
I would check with the ReportBuilder folks. They are very helpful, and
they have a good newsgroup. That product should get you faster reports
than you had in your old product.
Finally, you know you have to move from Access to a server database. RB
is a good choice - and there are others. I wouldn't look to simpler
free reporting products if you're trying to upgrade your commercial
product. You should be able to get good results with your current
choice.
