"Impairment charge" is the new term for writing off worthless goodwill.
Companies are to assess goodwill for impairment at least annually.

I hope they're not saying they took a loss because they either couldn't sell
CodeGear or the value of CodeGear dropped. Either statement smacks of
blaming your trouble on someone else.
