Re: If you shoot a salesman, is it really a crime?

A few months ago, (at a customer's request), I created a new UI for
one of them, optimized for a touch screen.

The end result is rather elegant, and thanks to all on this ng that
gave me hints to get it right.

The customer that asked for this (and paid for it) is very happy with
what I have done.

So, I created the buttons, the form subclass system, the whole nine
yards to make it work for a specific customer, and discovered that one
of the salesmen has seen it (the finished system)

Worse, he's seen how the touch-screen system that I created works and
has already sold it to 500 customers (or so he says).

I didn't know that all of this was part of a Trade Show. Hey, if you
are one of my competitors, then "Pah" you suck.

Unless you specifically reserved the rights to your new system, by virture of their requesting specific features and paying you for doing the work, they most likely have an implied unlimited license and you are SOL. If you really think you have a legal claim and some extra cash you don't mind losing , then consult a lawyer who specilizes in I.P.

What do I do now?

Eeek!

Learn that next time get a duly executed written agreement containg a full understanding of who owns what.
