Basically the University of California killed it by not recognizing that
PC's would be mass market items and adjusting their prices--IIRC p-system
licenses went for a premium over CP/M, and when IBM dropped the price of
PC-DOS to $50 it disappeared pretty quickly.

Nevertheless, knowing about USCD Pascal made me really wonder what the Java
fuss was all about: just another ho-hum virtual machine, p-code system that
ran in a managed environment. I'd seen it fail before.
