It's not me, but former coworkers. But yes, that's exactly what they would have liked.
From what I have seen I would spend more money on decent components for Delphi than I would in VS.
That depends on the kind of application that you're trying to make. AFAIK they were disappointed by Winforms positioning and basic grids. They mentioned "slugginess" and ugly controls that can't be customized. Don't know about Winforms, but I can say that native Delphi VCL and free substitutes have not these problems.
Anyway it wasn't a matter of money. Unfortunately young programmers aren't interested in Delphi, that's all.
