Many of the core VCL classes, like TStrings, are being updated to support new TEncoding parameters so you can specify what format to use when loading/saving data (Ascii, UTF-7, UTF-8, Unicode, etc).
I think a better solution would've been to create new string list classes
to work with the new string types.
This way you can easily support the old
and new.
I can't stress enough that it would've given
programmers more freedom of choice too.
