Ray,
I frankly find it difficult to understand the scope of a problem that
takes 2 years of meetings to resolve yet it is brittle enough for
some management change to cause the solution to be ignored.
LoL. I guess you've never been involved in academia. I have
departmental clients within a major University and know exactly what
Ray is talking about. It's an entirely different world. You have
individuals who are very intelligent and well read in their specific
area of expertise, but are generally clueless when they step outside
their domain. However, this does not stop them from believing that
their expertise extends to all matters.
So pardon me for being paranoid but I see the new management's
reticence to be related to the in-house software, now present and the
one to be developed, not being in the "latest and greatest"
architecture and language of the times. IOW, if the solution were to
be using .NET and C#, maybe the new managers would be OK with it.
I'm pretty sure this has little to do with it. The issue is likely
that the new team didn't come up with the original plan/decision, so
they want to put their mark on the project. My take is that this is
entirely about politics and ego.
