Yeah, that's my thing too. My favorite debugging tool used to be walks on
the beach when I lived in Savannah, GA. One particularly tough problem to
track down was a NaN that was getting from a data acquisition system through
the data stream to a PC that was displaying the data in real-time, and
crashing the display system. I'd take a walk on the beach after work every
day, and that would pump some blood through the debugging system, and I'd
come up with a cause and solution. Then test it the next morning, nope
wasn't it, try a few more things and go to the beach to think about it all.
After about 4 iterations, we solved the problem and moved on to the next
thing. Absolutely my favorite way to solve problems, and one of the most
effective, too.
Now that I don't have such a nice place to walk, I use SmartInspect and it
is very helpful, but like most tools, it's a _part_ of the solution, and the
brain is the catalyst that makes the process work.
