Amen Brother, I remember those days well, back when Borland was paving the way of cutting edge PC based development tool and
nothing but overnight shipping on a new release would due.

My nostalgia is for the launch events: TP6 at Wembley Stadium, QPW at the Festival Hall with fireworks and BP7 at Thorpe Park Theme Park (still got the umbrella). Presumably they had the same around the USA and elsewhere.

I remember a QPW launch in Australia where Phillippe Kahn was touting the voice control stuff. He just couldn't speak a sentence to the audience without the spread*** going into meltdown. It was cool and all, but notice that 20 years later and voice control still has a very limited audience.

That is the period that I judge is when Borland "jumped the shark" and lost sight of where their audience was. Fighting Lotus over the macro language was completely pointless; they should have just gone in a different direction like M$oft. Then selling off Quattro and using the money to fund Delphi was a temporary reprieve that gave them the chance to get back on track. But then they just went back to their old tricks, and this time they even changed the company name so no one could possibly miss that they were completely bonkers.

They just dug too big a hole to climb out of, and it was all their own fault. So now its up to Embarcadero to take the baton and run with it. Like most people on the NG I don't know if they have the ability, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
