Impractical, and almost certainly impossible.
New versions should focus on simplicity, quality and
reliability rather than new features. Each new version should
prioritise improvements to existing features and bug fixes over the
introduction of new features.
"So, what new features does the new version have?"
"Um, none. It just fixes some esoteric bugs that didn't affect you."
"Yeah, ok, I'll not bother buying the upgrade then".
This group frequently hears unfounded claims about a lack of
innovations in Delphi. Now you want to make it fact?
"many of the so-called "bugs" in
Windows are an intentional decision to favour backwards compatibility
over perfection in future programs. People who want the opposite
emphasis can get a Mac." It would be nice if Codegear were to adopt
the Mac policy.
Have you missed all the complaints here about how the upcoming Unicode
VCL is going to (allegedly) affect programmers? Any time CodeGear makes
a language change that will require coders to change their source, you
can be certain that it will piss people off.
4. Cross-platform capability
While there are certainly niche areas - even big ones - where cross
platform would be useful, I'm certainly not seeing any demand for it in
the typical business desktop applications I'm familiar with. If we
asked our customers how many were interested in a Linux version, I
expect half of them wouldn't even know what Linux is.
