If you're interested in the origin of the term:
Bill Vaughn is quoted with the following from the podium of
VSLive in 2001:
"I think Visual Basic .NET is not bad - it's just different.
In my opinion, it would have been far easier on everyone if
they had just called it something else - anything else.
Visual Fred would have been better. That way developers
would know that it's just another language."
That, of course, is the primary issue. Not that VB.Net is
bad but that it's another language, which means that
existing VB code and developers who own that code have been
abandoned. Secondarily, those who made these decisions are
still running the asylum so it ain't over. They'll do it
again.
