Re: Delphi for IPHONE

I.P.,

i didn't mean to, sorry. i agree, there's lots of options for
developing for the Mac, including not only Silverlight or even just
"plain old" .NET using Mono - matter of fact the latter is something
we strongly and explicitly support with our products, as well.

Me thinks "plain old" .NET apps running on a Mac using Mono would be as
inept as a donkey running in the Kentucky Derby. :)

not necessarily, no. Mono runs quite well on the Mac, and just as fast as .NET. And the new Cocoa bindings that are in the works will allow you to do native UI as well (the current v1 binding works well, but has some performance issues, but that's why its a v1 and a rewrite is coming ;).

the *only* real downside for building Mono apps will be the requirement for the Mono runtime (which, depending on your target audience) might be a tougher sell than the equivalent .NET Framework requirement on Windows. I'd expect THAT to be a problem if you want to ship shrink-wrapped $29 software, but not so much for, say, enterprise solutions.

that aside, Mono is imho a very feasible way to target Mac OS X. If you don;t care for the looks (ie would consider a FPC/VCL app as cross platform solution as well), then even WinForms will work.

(i personally don't consider non-native UI an appropriate solution, myself; i'd expect Mac UI. But opinions differ on that, and this has been discussed just a few threads down ;).
