FWIW, I've had the, um, joy of implementing, and replacing nearly all of the parts on, an EMC AX4-5i iSCSI SAN in the last two months.

My cohorts have Xiotech and NetApp SANs, and we're getting the sales pitch for an EqualLogic SAN. Feel free to ping me direct if you want to ask some questions.

There are a lot of benefits to a SAN, and a lot of things I wish I had known ahead of time. Just be aware that it's an awfully expensive game to get into, and cost seems to scale exponentially.
