    It's some kind of mythology/fantasy animal which has parts of a bird and
    other animals.

    A few months back we were looking for some kind of animal-logo to use as
    brand-pet for RO and this thing come up.
    We liked it so much we decided to keep the name for a product and when we
    thought of our app server, the match was perfect.

    Wolpertinger (the app server) hosts .Net and Win32 objects and might be
    extended to support Java in the future (this is why it matches the animal
    shape).

    That's the story, in short :-)
