flatbed scanner and saving scanned item in table

Sorry I posted this on the 21st but cannot find my original posting and
neither any replies - don't know what went wrong with my reader.

I don't really want to re-invent the wheel if this app exists. Need an
application (or hints if I must do it myself) to:
1. Type in doc number such as as Invoice number.
2. Insert the doc in the scanner
3. Click one button to scan and save the image of the scanned doc in a
table.
3. Be able to retrieve/print the doc by searching for it on database
