Lucky you then! In my experience, the OL2003 filter has been the worst
filter I have ever tried! I initially started with Low setting: completely
useless. Then went with the High one: still let a lot junk mails through.
Now, I use the Safe Lists Only setting, which is not my idea of a filter at
all, but the only one that only let valid e-mails through. This, obviously,
means that some valid e-mails are, once in a while, considered as junk, in
case the sender is not in one of my safe lists.

Prior to using OL2003 (i.e. OLXP), I had POPFile, which uses a Bayesian
approach and it did a very good job: about 99% of the junk would be
detected. Needless to say I used to like it a lot, considering I get more
than 200 junk e-mails per day (the last time I counted them, a couple of
months ago or so).

I really wonder what kind of technology OL2003 uses. Whatever it is, it's
completely crap. I would have expected them to use a Bayesian approach, but
somehow they obviously decided against it...

Otherwise, the only drawback I can see to POPFile is that if my Internet
connection drops (that can happen with Broadband), then POPFile will display
a window for each of my POP3 accounts, asking me to confirm the password.
Kind of annoying... I wish it could determine that my Internet connection
had dropped. Maybe it can nowadays... I will have to check...

Indeed, the current junk filter in OL2003 is so bad that it prevents you
from running some rules and alerts. One that I particularly like to have is
to move e-mails in a given folder, based on the account of mine that receive
s the account. Well, with the OL2003 filtering system on, what happens is
that OL2003 first checks whether an e-mail is junk or not. From there, it
will apply your rules/alerts... You got it... Some of my e-mails were
considered as junk and then moved to the folder I associated to a particular
account. Needless to say this is completely useless!

I checked on the OL newsgroup and the last I did that, the OL specialists
were aware of the problem, but nobody knew about a work around...

Ok, maybe I should reinstall POPFile... which incidentally is completely
free...

    Alan.
