It's not always important how ingenious or complex the thing is that you
develop. I have made quite a few very complex software products (e.g.
license plate recognition), but generally there's also just a very small
group of customers for it.. aka in the end you don't sell much.

On the other hand, I once wrote a software program in one night to check for
duplicates, basically for my own need, and decided out of a joke to put it
on the internet for 15 dollars. And guess what.. Already selling around the
10.000 version of it in 2,5 years time.

So it is an art to find the right product with the right customer base.. and
be in front of your competition..
because they'll follow "like hyenas" :)
