There are ample ways to get your product out for everyone to see, most
notably Google Adwords. No need for spam at all. Who will you reach with a
spam mailing? All developers I know simply hit delete on any spam message
before even reading it.
If you advertise through a tech newsletter (another option) then I don't
call this spam. A third non-spam method (and free) is announce updates in
appropriate newsgroups (like this one) that allow announcements.
