Re: EurekaLog 5.0 (Catch every Exception showing Line#)

Hi Lauchlan,

Since this is a major release (version 5 rather than 4), could you pick out
which are the major new features from this, and elaborate them a little?

Or is it the case that the transition from version 4 to version 5 has been
gradual, so there is now little change between the last version 4 and the
current version 5?

Everything you quoted above is new, and most are major new features.

My favorites:

3)...Send a log-file copy in XML format;
This will make it much easier to automatically fetch the bug report emails, and integrate them into a database (which I'm already doing, using regular expressions to parse the email, but it's messy).

5)...Send the email/"upload files" in a separated thread;

This is a VERY nice feature, which I can't wait to benefit from. Currently, the users sometimes don't want to send the email because it blocks them for a long time while sending the email.

6)...Compress all files to send in tar.gz format (.tgz);

Very good.

7)...Attach customizable files to the send message;

Very good also, because I include the SQL log in my bug reports, this will make it easier by allowing it to simply be an attachment.

11)...Full Exception-Dialog customization;

I like this, because I've always wanted to be able to remove the "Copy to clipboard" checkbox, or force the user to send the email (in cases where they have a permanent internet connection anyway).

15)...Customizable log-file section view (show/hide Modules/CPU sections);

This is good because I've never really had any need for the modules nor the CPU sections, so it will make the bug report a bit smaller by getting rid of them.

16)...Full Call-Stack customization;

Not sure what this means, but it sounds interesting...

19)...Display of Procedure Offset (to use sources modified after the
software delivery);

This sounds very useful!

23)...Save a compressed files contained all the data in case of wrong send;

Very good also.

25)...New EurekaLog Viewer full integrated with the OS Shell and
Delphi/CBuilder IDE;

Nice!

Was there any compression before? Compressing files transfered is indeed a
good idea.

No there wasn't. .
