Re: Looking for a database

While my opinion is kind of subjective (being very good friend with
MicroOlap team members) i do think their support can be improved.. They do
have a ticket support system for registered users (decided to drop the
forums for various reasons unknown to me). And I do spend quite some time
these days supporting their tickets system..

Areas that needs improving are:

- responses: When a problem is reported they do jump on solving it however,
there is NO notification to the person reporting the problem. You would
however get a fairly quick answer (few hours) if they are unable to
reproduce the problem. Unfortunatelly many times it seems there is no
notification when a problem has been fixed, nor any information about
release dates ... We are working into reducing the over-all response time,
however the support is quite far from the buzz you'd see on Nexus forums for
example...

- releases speed: Currently there are no fixed dates and there seem to be a
bit of time between the releases. We are currently working on having a
support section where registered users can download the latest sources/fixes
as they appear (rather than waiting for an official release). This should
reduce the time between reporting a problem and having a fix for it.

- roadmaps: at the moment is difficult to find out what the future will
bring. Un-annouced features include support for stored procedures, embedded
library, multiple protocols (tcp/ip, named pipes, shared memory) and faster
over all performance. There is also a version (3.0) work in progress which
there is no mention about in their site, and honestly from what i've seen
this version should be quite an improvement over the current one ...

Cant' think to anything else to complain about for the moment ...

Kind regards,
Cristian Nicola
